This new build gave us a blank slate. A swimming pool and neighborhood regulations required a certain style of fence. We took advantage of the slope and built a retaining wall to cause the fence to disappear when looking from terrace toward the lake while still fulfilling county requirements.
The client wanted to be able to walk the space in a meditative way, hence the long beds, serpentine lines, and wide fescue pathways that take advantage of the longest sight lines.
The garden is minimalistic, using only three types of plants: calamagrostis brachytricha, Shenandoah panicum, and verbena bonariensis, along with the fescue. A lakeside garden such as this can never compete with the lake views, but this one bows to the majesty of the lake, giving itself a unique and appropriate pesona.
