Small front yards with little-to-no usable space and issues with drainage, erosion and run-off, are commonplace in today's urban infill neighborhoods. This home in Davidson, NC, was no exception. Through the thoughtful use of plant shapes, hues, and textures, along with minimal hardscape, this postage-stamp sized front yard became a garden that successfully grounds the home into the landscape. In addition, a functional but unattractive backyard drainage ditch was transformed into a garden and dry creek bed.
